Writing an opinion essay for DELE & SIELE
Opinion texts appear across DELE and SIELE writing from B1 to C1. A clear structure and a few argument connectors make them straightforward to write well.
Take a clear position
State your opinion in the first sentence and keep it consistent. Examiners reward a text that answers the question directly, not one that lists ideas without a stance.
A simple, strong structure
Introduction: present the topic and your position. Body paragraph 1: your main argument with an example. Body paragraph 2: a second argument, or acknowledge the other side and respond. Conclusion: restate your position briefly.
Connectors that argue
Introduce ideas: en mi opinión, considero que, es evidente que. Add: además, asimismo, por otro lado. Contrast: sin embargo, no obstante, a pesar de. Conclude: en definitiva, por lo tanto, en conclusión.
